Using stitches to
silence someone is not good. Who is the man they are trying to silence?
Silence the man for what reason? Reasons that everyone know or reasons that
someone is trying to prevent everyone from knowing?
This pictures
reminds me of a time when I got in trouble in school for talking to a classmate
and the teacher kept telling me repeatedly to be quiet. All I wanted to do was
tell my first something and the teachers wouldn't let me. Later on in life we
were taught about the Constitution in Social Studies. My teachers taught her
about the freedom of speech. I thought about if we have freedom of speech then
why do teachers or parents get anger on when certain people say things they do
not like. The guy might also represent someone that works for the government
that has high power. The guy might know something that can either ruin the
government or make the government stronger. Well since his mouth is being
stitched obviously it would ruin them. The government will do anything they can
to silence that individual and if that mean paying them off, hurting them, or
relocating them, then I bet the government would do it. Just to keep that
individual silence they would because they have all the control.
The government
controls everything and if the government controls everything that means they
control your freedom too. My definition of freedom is being able to do anything
legal without being judged or have a consequence behind it. Just being your own
person. As Applebaum said there are parts of the world that do not respect the
rights of the free press (Applebaum 645). I find that very true, but that is
also related to the freedom of speech. People are so afraid of what others
might do or say that they will not say what they want or they won’t even write
it down. How is that freedom? I thought freedom was being able to say whatever
you want whenever you want but I guess things have changed.
You want to have
freedom keep dreaming. You might think you will have freedom but you will not.
Nothing you do is ever free. That is what Applebaum was trying to say. Freedom
doesn't exist, it never will.
